Welcome to WEA Southern Region

Everyone is welcome!

Learning with the WEA is exciting and rewarding. Our courses are organised for adults and are usually informal and friendly. You will be welcomed to our class and your views and experience will be valued. For many of our courses you can come along to the first meeting without obligation. We offer people the opportunity to study with knowledgeable tutors and friendly fellow class members and we encourage students to have a say in the planning of their own learning. We know that adults bring a wide range of skills and experience to the class. Our tutors help to direct that experience and knowledge to support the learning that takes place in the class.

Adult Learners’ Week Awards 2012

Celebrate exceptional achievements in learning & promote the WEA.  Nominate someone today!

WEA ALW Award Winners 2011“Just getting nominated for the award was fantastic but to win it is brilliant; I’m very proud to accept it.  It’s never too late to come to education. If I can do it, anybody can do it.”
John Wilson, South East Regional Awards Winner, ALW 2011

Southern Region had cause to celebrate in May: three of our learners were honoured at the 20th NIACE Adult Learners’ Week Awards.  The annual  awards celebrate all kinds of learning.  They recognise and celebrate the achievements of extraordinary adults who have transformed their lives and communities for the better, and who can inspire others to give learning a go.

Adult Learners' Week 2012 takes place 12-18 May 2012.

Please help us to celebrate and promote the WEA by nominating someone you know who has achieved something remarkable through learning. This could be getting their dream job, learning to read and write or overcoming a particular challenge.

There are two main award categories:

  • Individuals whose remarkable learning achievements have made a difference to their lives and have inspired others; and
  • Inspiring Learning Projects which recognises creativity and innovation of projects and organisations in providing learning opportunities for adults.

Please spare the time to make a nomination this year.  It is quick and easy to nominate online.  Simply go to http://www.alw.org.uk/learning-awards for information about the awards, and follow the links.

If you need help with your nomination, please email tarnold@wea.org.uk.

***NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON 27 January 2011***

Information and Advice

WEA Southern Region provides information to all students who enrol on our courses. If the course best suited to you is with another educational provider such as a local college, we will provide you with all the information to take that next step. Please click here for information about the the WEA's services, the Careers Advice Service, and nextstep. Most WEA courses are free to people who receive an income related benefit and to their unwaged dependents. Some courses are externally funded and free to all learners. Others charge a fee in accordance with regional policy, which should be paid within two weeks of the start of the course.
