Summary description
WEA Scotland is seeking a dynamic Education Coordinator to develop and lead an exciting new educational project "Bringing to life the meaning of Conscientious Objection across Scotland"
The Workers’ Educational Association is a charity and the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education.  We are a charity with a strong sense of social purpose, dedicated to bringing great teaching into the heart of local communities.  All our educational provision is developed with this in mind and our courses can be set up almost anywhere – for example in clubs, community centres, village halls, schools, pubs or where people work.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the WEA are seeking a dynamic Education Co-ordinator to develop and lead an exciting new educational project: ‘Bringing to life the meaning of Conscientious Objection across Scotland’.This national project will focus on the Scottish legacy of those who conscientiously objected to the first world war and will be centred on three specific geographical areas, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Through the activities of the project we want to enable community and inter-generational learning that reflects and critically analyses what it means to be an active citizen offering leadership that is different to, and in objection to, the dominant call to serve at the time.
The post holder will:
• Work with communities to bring to life stories of these people and tradition, exploring what they did since the first world war.
• work with learners in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow to develop the educational programme of the project.
• work in close partnership with Edinburgh Peace and Justice Centre and the project steering group.
• evaluate project activities and produce progress reports to Heritage Lottery Fund on a regular basis.
