From computing to cookery, all kinds of subjects are tempting adults back into the classroom. Whether they are aiming for new qualifications or learning for fun, many people are enrolling on the wide range of courses available. The Omega Centre in Portsmouth ran a full programme of activities for Adult Learners week during May and they paid special attention to celebrating the work produced by learners, including those attending art courses at the centre.
Rachel Thomson, senior campaigns officer at the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, which organises Adult Learners’ Week, said: ‘The aim is to inspire people to give learning a go, whether it’s to improve their employability or their personal confidence or simply just to enjoy themselves.’ At Portsmouth they are managing to do all three! |
